ADOPT A HIGHWAY

We met at 8AM on Saturday to start our service project. We were helping with "Adopt a Highway" trash clean up. Our ward takes care of two miles along the streets of Tyler. Our youth and leaders were there and ready to help. We split into groups of four and started on our merry way. I took three young women with me and Abbie was taggin along. I guess, the bishop felt sorry for us because Bro. Rhodus dropped him off to help us out. A short time later, a man started talking with the bishop. The next thing I knew the bishop was calling me over to take a picture with them (Abbie and I were working on the opposite side of the Highway). Apparently, this guy was from the Tyler Paper and was taking photos around town. He asked us what we were doing and asked if we wanted to be in the paper. HOORAY!! We were all so excited. After all, this was also our service project for Youth Conference.

We were about finished with our section, and it started pouring down rain. The bishop told us to take shelter under the cable company's building and he was going to walk back to the post office where we had parked our cars. He got about 2 yards and the skies opened up and it started pouring buckets of rain down on him. I felt horrible for him. :( He was soaking wet by the time he came back to pick us up. The girls, had such a great attitude. It really shocked me that I didn't hear anyone complain about having to pick up nasty trash. They are just the best girls ever!!! I won't even go into detail of what kind of nasty things we found along side the road. It's amazing what people just throw out of their cars/trucks.  As soon as we finished, I offered everyone hand sanitizer to wipe their hands. You just felt so dirty. Luckily, we had eaten doughnuts before we had started our service project. No one really felt like eating once we were done.

Later that afternoon, Abbie and I went with some friends to see the movie "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".  It was HILARIOUS!!! This movie is like watching Austin and his friends in action. It hit too close to home. It truly was a great clean show.

Another weekend is over and the a new week is upon us. Tomorrow, I'm going to learn how to make candles with some ladies from church. I've heard its really easy. I've been dying to learn how. So, I'm excited for the chance to learn from the pro's.
