Edgewood Historical Village

The whole third grade class went on a field trip on Friday.  They were headed to Edgewood Historical Village.  It’s  on the other side of Canton. It’s about 50miles from her school.  I knew better than to follow the school buses there, so I went on my own.  Abbie, was already dreading the bus ride the night before. She thought that a boy named, Brock, would have to sit with her.  On good day’s she admits that she has a crush on him and then the other days she can’t stand him. Always drama around here. Go figure. Come to find out she was able to sit next to two of her best friends.  HOORAY!!!

In this picture they are in a little cafe’.  The guide was showing them how things would have been back then.  Things in this cafe’ made me think of things that were in Mama Parish’s house (my great grandmother).

Here they were learning about how they stored their meat and an outhouse.  Dried out corncobs were used as toilet paper.  That makes me hurt just thinking about it.

This was Abbie’s best friend, Cali, in 1st grade.  Last year, it broke her heart knowing they were  in different classes. This year they are back together.  They also attend the same cheer class on Tuesday’s.  Cali is a twin.  She and her twin are the sweetest girls.

She loved this part of the tour.  I think she enjoyed the way the teacher would punish the students and how they got their attention.

                                   At the Barber Shop

We had a great time on this field trip.  Earlier in the week, their teacher sent home a note telling the children they could bring up to five dollars to spend at the gift shop.  Abbie, looked and looked for the perfect stuffed animal that she could buy. In our group, one little girl didn’t have any money.  You could tell she was so sad.  Everyone kept asking her “what did you buy with your money?” She would look to the ground and try to ignore them. It broke my heart.  So, I let the group go on up ahead and I went back to the store and purchased her a little stuffed animal.  I came back and told Abbie to give the little girl this bag.  Abbie, took both her bag and the one that I had purchased and let the little girl choose which bag (animal) she wanted.  This little girls face just beamed!!  She was in shock that someone would think of her.  Before she even made her decision, she gave Abbie the biggest hug and said “thank you!!”. The little girl, chose the animal that Abbie had searched for and wanted.  Abbie didn’t say a word and just took the other bag.  Then, the little girl reached for Abbie’s hand and they walked to the next stop on our tour.

As a mom, I was so proud of my girl!! What a great day we had together.

This looks like a fun field trip. I always think about Mama Parrish's house. I loved being with her. I also loved staying at her home. I thought the had the coolest house ever! Remember the small dishes she had in that cabinet on the wall in her living room? We would always play with those dishes! (It was our version of a tea party!)
