Jury Duty

Finally, my life is back to normal after serving on jury duty for over four weeks. I’m still trying to get back into the groove of working out, blog entries, organizing my house and many other things. Before I ever left for NY, I was interviewed by both the defense and the state. They grilled me for over two hours. Then, they let me leave and go on my mini vacation only to find out when I returned that I had been picked for this capital murder/death penalty case. Once this case got rolling, it was a wild ride and one that I don’t ever want to be on again. Although, I couldn’t have been with nicer people to serve with (except for one old man). They chose five women (including me) and nine men.

I won’t go into all the details of this case, but it was very, very, sad. At times, I felt that I was on this case to fight for the victim and the children that were involved. There are no winner’s. After the trial was over, I received a letter in the mail from the District Attorney’s office as well as the judge. They DA’s office included a picture of the victim and a heart felt “thank you”.  Getting both of these letter’s in the mail touched me. Most likely they send these out all the time. In the judge’s letter he said, “ This was one of the longest criminal trials in terms of evidence and jury selection in our county’s history”. To think that I was a part of that is just amazing. Once again, so happy that it is OVER!
