Our Theme
Had shirts made for each girl to wear proudly.
(They turned out sooo cute!)
Our stake leaders and Bishop Sonne came out one night and joined us for a fish fry. The girls prepared skits the night before and took the stage again to perform for our guests. (We leaders had brought props from home and gave each group a set and told them that they had to use all the items in their skit. The girls did an excellent job and had a great fun performing them for everyone).
The Gang!!!
The first day, we had the girls go out and find walking sticks. Then, we had them varnish them to make them look nice and something they would want to keep after camp. Cheryl, took three of our 4th yr girls with her and they mapped out a hike for the rest of the girls. They tied ribbons to different trees along the way for the girls to find. The ribbons represented the different principles (Honest, True, Virtuous, etc) that reinforced our theme.
Yes, we went hiking through the woods!! I was terrified that someone was going to come across a snake by accident. My eyes were watching each step I took to make sure it wasn’t me who stepped on a snake. :P
My sweet ,Karla, with her walking stick . Notice all her ribbons that she found along the trail. This was a great activity to keep the girls focused on our theme as well as something they could use along the hike.
Earlier that morning while on the hike, the girls were introduced to a Sassaphrass tree. We broke one of the branches off so the girls could smell it and told them that this was an ingredient in Root Beer. Sweet Donella, thought it would be a great idea to make homemade root beer for all the girls to enjoy. (She is absolutely the BEST!!!!) Most of the girls had never tasted homemade root beer. It was so yummy and refreshing.
I was in charge over one of the crafts. I thought the girls might enjoy making stamped washer necklaces. They got to stamp their own washer and choose the beads to make their necklace their own. They tuned out cute and the girls loved making them.

This year, camp was a lot of fun!!!! The cabins were AWESOME!!! They were clean and air conditioned!! The whole camp only lasted three days and two nights……..YAY!!!! The girls were able to fish, kayack, had the use of paddle boats and went tubing out on Lake Tyler. It was really nice having five leaders to make the load lighter on everyone. Ahhh…Great Memories.
