Missionary Luncheon

On Valentine’s Day the missionaries had a big area conference. They mission office had called and wanted our ward to feed these missionaries. Our RS took care of purchasing the food and gathering supplies and then they needed volunteers to help.

At the last minute, we found out that the tables didn’t have a center piece. Quickly Sister Taylor and Sis. Atwood,  ran to the store and purchased candy, balloons, stuff animals for prizes. They really did a great job! The tables ended up looking better than we could have expected. So it all worked out in the end.

One other major incident happened at this luncheon. We were feverishly working in the kitchen trying to get the food ready and put the garlic bread in the oven when smoke started filling the room, halls, etc of the church building. Needless to say, the fire department ended up having to come out. Fire alarms were going off so loudly that no one could hear a thing. It got really comical but at the time it was so embarrassing. We were preparing all this food at the North Tyler building and it is not equipped for a big crowd. Also, their oven was black from food burning on the bottom. It looked to have not been cleaned in a long time. This is what caused all the smoke when we had to turn on the oven to warm our bread. Oh well, now I can look back and laugh but at the time I couldn’t look an elder in the face because I was so embarrassed.

What a nice treat for the missionaries. Don't worry about some smoke that you only caused by turning on an oven. If you want to be embarrassed, make it worthwhile and burn the main dish! haha Love ya!
