Austin, has been going to basketball practice since Monday. The coaches said that they were picking twenty guys (out of 60) to play on the two teams for the 7th grade. The coaches were telling the guys who would be playing after practice yesterday morning. Austin’s name didn’t get called to play in the game. From that he knew he probably would not be making the team. Then, after lunch, one of the coaches found Austin and asked him if he would like to play. He explained that two boys were not going to be playing with the team because of failing grades. Austin, told the coach that he would love to play! The coaches stressed to all the boys that whoever played well in the game would make the team. The game began and Austin made four great shots one right after another. He was pumped!!! I loved watching him!! There was a light in his eyes that I haven’t seen for awhile. It was a very intense game. They lost at the last second, too. A boy made a 3 point shot as the buzzer was going off. It sucked for our boys!!! Austin, really wants to make the team. He was upset that he was only able to play two quarters last night. The coaches put in the second string of boys the last two quarters. Austin shared with Michael and I that if he could have played longer he would have made more points. LOL!!! The coaches aren’t telling the boys who made the team until the end of next week. I personally think this is really strange that they are taking so long picking out players. Oh well, if this is what it takes to make Austin fight to make the team, then it will be well worth the wait.
